“If everything is marble, nothing is marble.” We’ve all heard some version of this notion that the key to styling + design is to be economical with your spotlight. In other words, don’t overdo it! Fortunately for Karina and Don, design titan CCL Weddings & Events is well-versed in this law – the result being an exquisitely minimalist ceremony backdrop to let the couple (and the LA skyline views) shine. The tangle of flowering branches and baby’s breath in wintery whites was the genius of floral designer Of The Flowers, whose modern take on things practically broke the glass ceiling. And speaking of, the rooftop portraits from Etcetera Photo are the jaw-dropping, knee-shaking, earth-shatteirng stuff of magic. If there’s any doubt in your mind that a modern black and white wedding isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, we’re confident that Karina & Don’s virtually cinematic story below will have you convinced otherwise in 3 seconds flat.
Karina and Don wed at South Park Center, a venue equally loved for its skyline views, downtown LA location, and minimalist modern vibe. Guests immediately got a taste of the evening they were in for from their arrival into the ceremony space. With string music welcoming guests as they took their seats, they would see the upscale, minimalist floral arrangement by Of The Flowers, allowing the skyline behind the altar to take center stage. I love how ghost chairs from Chiavari Chair Rentals were used here so that the setting and florals could give their ceremony that wow factor.
That same vibe was carried throughout the reception space, thanks to Art Rentals, Party Rentals and Modest Peach, embracing the modern and minimalist look with neutral linens, ghost chairs and tons of florals in shades of white. Black silverware, napkins and plates added an elegant contrast to the all-white look. Fun design elements like a locker seating chart and twinkle lights dangling from the ceiling added some extra flair for this affair.
The bride stunned with hair and makeup by Studio MM&B in her effortlessly elegant ceremony dress and corset bodice dress for the reception. Her groom donned a classic tux that was perfectly cohesive to their upscale look.
Guests enjoyed a three course meal, wedding cake and ice cream sandwiches from Hungry Bear Catering. Hi Def Event Group kept them dancing into the evening, while enjoying drinks served by Sunseri’s and a photobooth from Third Eye Photobooth.
All the details from the day flowed together seamlessly thanks to CCL Weddings and Etcetera Photo and Memo Collective captured it all to perfection.
Patience may be a virtue, but I’ll be honest, our supply is depleted. We’ve used it all up on waiting to share this modern black and white wedding with you! Seriously. From the rooftop First Look that had us tearing up like the first time we saw Mia Thermopolis get her first kiss (and simultaneous foot pop) to the orchid-strewn tables elevated by a cavalcade of glass chargers, ghost chairs and black velvet napkins, Karina & Don’s LA nuptials were a perfect balance of love, tenderness and contemporary minimalism.
